History of education bibliography

The history of education bibliography is a specialist bibliography which has been published annually since 1994/95. Up to 2007/2008 it was published in print form. In the future, the bibliography will be available as an online database in open access. The first version of the database will be published in 2010.

Each volume of the bibliography comprises about 2,500 new publications (monographs, articles from journals and collected works, electronic documents and reviews) from German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) which relate to the following subjects:

• history of education, its theories and academic evaluation,
• history of educational law, educational policy and educational administration,
• history of educational institutions,
• biographies of figures of significance in educational history,
• historical socialisation research as well as educational-historical aspects of related disciplines, for example psychology, sociology, social and cultural history, history of society and mentalities.

Articles in foreign language from selected international specialist journals with a particular significance for educational history are also listed. In the bibliography, educational history in defined in a broad sense. This indicates that it is not so much a narrowly defined discipline but rather one with open structure, an interdisciplinary field of historical research projects.

The bibliography is published by the Bibliothek für Bildungsgeschichtliche Forschung (BBF) of the Deutsches Institut für Internationale Pädagogische Forschung. Current cooperation partners are the dhe Department for Historical and Comparative Education of the University of Klagenfurt, the academic project Jahresberichte für deutsche Geschichte being conductes by the Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, the Bibliothek Erziehungswissenschaft of the Philipps-Universität Marburg and the library/media library of the Pestalozzianum in Zürich.
